24.7 Crisis Support – One number. All ages. In Peel.
905·278·9036 | 1·888·811·2222
Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga, ON: June 28, 2021 – Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Peel Dufferin and EveryMind Mental Health Services (EveryMind) have launched one telephone number for residents of all ages in Peel to obtain 24·7 professional support during a mental health crisis.
905·278·9036 (or toll-free 1·888·811·2222) will now connect to EveryMind’s crisis support service for children/youth and families, and CMHA’s crisis support service for adults and older youth. Both agencies’ crisis calls will flow into this single number to ensure that every caller will receive support, no matter which number they call.
When Peel residents call the crisis support telephone number, they will be connected to professional crisis workers at EveryMind or CMHA based on the age of the person experiencing the crisis:
- Children/youth up to age 18 and their families/caregivers will be connected to EveryMind.
- Youth ages 16 and 17 can choose whether they prefer support from EveryMind or CMHA.
- Adults ages 18 and older will be connected to CMHA Peel Dufferin.
“One number for crisis support for all ages is a milestone for our community. It simplifies access and streamlines the telephone-system infrastructure for crisis response across the child/youth and adult mental health sectors. This is a big step forward in improving ease of access to mental health crisis services in the Region of Peel,” said David Smith, CEO of CMHA Peel Dufferin.
“One number is the result of efforts by EveryMind and CMHA Peel Dufferin to achieve system improvements to mental health services across the lifespan,” said Ceri Harnden, CEO of EveryMind. “Our joint work aligns with the Ontario government’s vision in its plan, Roadmap to Wellness, of
‘A province where all Ontarians have access to high-quality, easily accessible mental health and addictions support through their lifetime, where and when they need it.’ ”
Overall, CMHA Peel Dufferin and EveryMind respond to more than 60,000 crisis calls/year and also offer mobile crisis response services. Additionally, CMHA partners with Peel Regional Police in Peel’s Mobile Crisis Rapid Response Team (MCRRT), which pairs a specially trained Peel police officer and a CMHA Peel Dufferin crisis worker as a rapid response team. MCRRT’s goal is to stabilize and support persons in mental health and addiction crises and, where appropriate, connect them to community-based services rather than transporting them to an Emergency Department.
