Grand Opening for CMHA Peel Dufferin’s new offices in Orangeville

New location offers improved access to mental health & addictions services

Brampton, Ontario – The Canadian Mental Health Association Peel Dufferin Branch (CMHA Peel Dufferin) is hosting a Grand Opening of our new offices in Orangeville on Wednesday, May 9^th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. CMHA Peel Dufferin has re-located to a new office to better serve residents of Dufferin County.

CMHA’s new offices in Orangeville are more centrally located, at 1 Elizabeth Street, in the same building as the family health team and other service providers. There are counselling rooms for meetings with clients and families, space for group programming (including a space for the popular art recovery group), and a room for telemedicine as well as space for education, training and workshops.

Thanks to a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, CMHA Peel Dufferin will now have Access workers available at our Dufferin office to support local residents who walk-in looking for help or require information as well as facilitating intake and referrals.

New! Rapid Access Addiction Clinic (RAAC) to serve Dufferin

CMHA’s new office space is equipped with a medical facility with an attached psychiatry/counselling space to support the new Rapid Access Addiction Clinic (RAAC).  The newly established RAAC is in response to the growing opioid crisis and the need for increased supports for those with addictions in the community. The RAAC provides immediate access to lifesaving treatment by offering same-day counselling and addiction medication. This clinic model has been shown to help save lives by engaging people with short- and long-term treatments as soon as they are ready and interested.

Nurse Practitioners lead a multi-disciplinary team to assess, diagnose, treat and monitor clients who use substances and there is an emphasis on non-judgmental interactions, which include health promotion and education. CMHA’s RAAC is the first rapid access addiction clinic in the Central West region that accepts all patients, including self-referrals and walk-ins, in addition to referrals from family doctors, hospitals and emergency departments, and the community. Individuals who are addicted to alcohol, opioids or other drugs can access care with or without an appointment or physician referral.

This clinic operates across all sub-regions of the CW LHIN on a rotating basis to promote easy access to services. The RAAC operates at the CMHA offices in Orangeville Thursday’s with Walk-ins welcomed from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and planned appointments from 1p.m. – 3 p.m.
