How Stretching Can Help You Off The Bike
May 16, 2019
As we gear up for our 2019 Ride Don’t Hide Greater Toronto Event in Caledon Hills it’s important to remember the following when it comes to proper recovery as a cyclist, it is imperative that you take care of yourself in multiple means via proper nutrition, physical rest and stretching.
Stretching is important as a cyclist to prevent injury, prevent muscle tightness and spasms and allow for better oxygen utilisation throughout the body. With increased mobility, you can expect improved performance during your race and decrease the chances of injury.
Focus points:
-hips
-hamstrings and quads
-calves
-ankle circles
-opening of the chest and shoulders
-general posture
I recommend holding stretches for an absolute minimum of 10 seconds, but preferably for a count of 30 seconds while focusing on deep breathing.
