Peel Region launches Break the Silence campaign to raise awareness on family and intimate partner violence
Nov 26, 2024
Family and intimate partner violence is everyone’s concern as it threatens the basic right to live free from violence.
On November 25, 2024, Peel Region officially launched the Break the Silence campaign, marking its fifth year of raising awareness about family and intimate partner violence (FIPV). This annual initiative begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and continues through the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. The campaign aims to foster open conversations, dispel harmful myths, and encourage survivors to seek help by highlighting the resources available in the community.
With the collaboration of over 25 community organizations and local governments, this initiative aims to challenge misconceptions, provide resources in multiple languages, and encourage residents to speak out against violence.
In 2023 alone, Peel Police responded to over 16,000 incidents of family and intimate partner violence, highlighting the critical need for collective action.
Together, we can make Peel a safer and more connected community.
