CMHA PD Celebrates 10th Year Anniversary of Talk Today

Bringing Mental Health and Addictions into the Spotlight at the Mississauga Steelheads Game

In an exciting collaboration that brings sports and mental health advocacy together, CMHA Peel Dufferin is proud to join forces with the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and the Mississauga Steelheads for a special event aimed at breaking the silence around mental health issues. On the evening of Friday, February 9th, the Paramount Fine Foods Centre will not only be the stage for the thrilling game between the Mississauga Steelheads and the Barrie Colts but also a platform for raising awareness about the importance of mental health support, especially for athletes.

The Power of Talk Today

The Talk Today program, a cornerstone initiative by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), has been making waves across the sports world by fostering a safe environment for athletes to discuss mental health. Celebrating its 10th season in junior hockey, the program underscores February as a pivotal month for mental health awareness in the sports community, leveraging the excitement of hockey games to engage fans, players, and communities in vital conversations about mental wellness.

CMHA Peel Dufferin’s involvement in the Talk Today program highlights the organization’s commitment to extending mental health support beyond traditional settings and into arenas where young athletes can feel empowered to seek help. By partnering with the OHL and the Mississauga Steelheads, CMHA Peel Dufferin is set to make a significant impact at the upcoming game, transforming it into more than just a sporting event—it’s a lifeline for those silently struggling.
