Statement from CMHA Peel Dufferin: These last few weeks have been very heavy on all our hearts
Jun 18, 2020
These last few weeks have been very heavy on all our hearts.
The horror of anti-Black racism has brought to the forefront centuries of race-based abuse and death inflicted against Black neighbours, friends, and fellow citizens. It is clear that anti-Black racism must be eradicated.
As an agency dedicated to better mental health, we have seen the terrible effect of years of trauma and abuse on the mental well-being of Black people in the community and around the world.
CMHA opposes all racism and amidst our current crisis we are committed to doing what we can to change the experience of Black colleagues, their families and clients. We will do this work through the principles of anti-racism, equity and inclusion in mental health and addiction services. Our agency will make it a priority to address anti-Black racism inside our organization and in advocacy and partnerships. We are listening, learning, and taking action.
We are working collaboratively within our agency and with partners. We are committed to real change and will do whatever it takes to make that happen.
As always, if you are feeling overwhelmed, we are here for you. You can call us for mental health and addiction services at 905-451-2123 or 1-877-451-2123. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis you can call 24.7 Crisis Support Peel at 905-278-9036 or 1-888-811-2222 (Caledon & Dufferin).
