What to Expect at Your Intake Appointment

  1. Your appointment will be with an Immediate Intervention Specialist (IIS) who is a trained and qualified clinician from Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Peel Dufferin.
  2. Immediate Intervention Specialists are NOT crisis workers though they can assist you with many things. If you are in a crisis, we encourage you to connect with our 24.7 Crisis Support team directly at 905-278-9036.
  3. The purpose of the Intake Appointment is to assess needs and get to know your current circumstances. Collaboratively we will determine next steps and program determination.
  4. Your conversation with an Immediate Intervention Specialist may also include a single task-based intervention and/or general information and resource sharing.
  5. An Intake Appointment is generally 30-60 minutes.
  6. We welcome you to ask questions and share feedback during and after the appointment.
  7. CMHA Peel Dufferin services are free of charge and confidential.
  8. CMHA Peel Dufferin will not disclose Personal Health Information outside of Circle of Care unless you provide consent to do so, except in the following circumstances:
    • If we are made aware you are an immediate threat or harm to yourself or another individual, and we are unable to safety plan, we have a duty to warn and/or a duty to report.
    • If a child under the age of 16 is under threat or harm, we have a duty to report.
    • We take notes on every interaction we have and if those notes or your records are subpoenaed to court, CMHA Peel Dufferin must provide these records.
  9. If you are unable to make your appointment, we ask that you cancel or reschedule as soon as you are aware. You are welcome to phone us anytime Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm at 905-451-2123 ext. 4 or email us at referrals@cmhapeel.ca
